[Katsuki staaaaaaares at his phone for a long while. Several minutes, in fact. Then it pops up with those three little dots that means he's typing.

Those three little dots flash for several more minutes. And then...]

[Whoops. Izuku feels a little panic as he watches those dots form and vanish over and over...]

It didn't take me that long to say it's only weird to ask because we're new here and I wasn't sure if you'd even be interested in helping.

[He's thankful, okay!! ... But that means he's also scrambling to go unlock the door. Imagine... Being neighbours.]

[No more responses come. Instead Katsuki is at his door in a few minutes. He has a wheelbarrow he found near his own cottage.]

Figure out where you want to pile the debris. I'll blast the rocks, you move the debris. And you're helping clear mine too.

[Katsuki... Straight to business.]

I was hoping I could use the rock debris as a way to line the new garden area. I think that would make use of all the rock.

I'm not helping you line your garden today. One task at a time, damn you. And today that task is clearing the fields.

[No good morning back. Just a 'tch' as he marches towards the field to size it up.

It has not escaped him what today is but he sure assumes it has escaped Izuku. Whatever. He has no need for Valentines anyway. Not like he's got a lover to spend it with so he'll spend it being productive.]

We'll start on this end, work our way across yours and into mine.

[fullgauntlet]

No, that's fair... I think I can do the garden on my own.

[Meanwhile, Izuku is wondering if it's a little underhanded of him to ask Katsuki to help him today. It's not anything special. Katsuki doesn't even like things like Valentine's day. He never has...

But Izuku follows after Katsuki anyway. He has some work gloves that he got from a shop the other day. Izuku's cottage seems fairly run down and overgrown with rocks and weeds in general. It's going to be a lot of work.]

This end has a few boulders that I meant. We can start with this one!

[He points to the large unruly boulder just ahead.]

Don't tell me what to do, damn you.

[Says the guy who is already taking aim to break down one of the bigger boulders so they can more easily move the pieces. He's careful and concise with his blasts, breaking up the boulders without risking injury to either him or Izuku.

He leaves it to Izuku to load the pieces in the wheelbarrow for now and move 'em where he wants.]

[He sweatdrops a little but he doesn't complain. Katsuki is helping him so he really can't say anything to that. Plus they seem to be working together a lot lately (since they got here) and Izuku is just grateful for that...?

The familiar sound and smell of Katsuki's quirk make Izuku feel right at home. So he starts loading up the broken-up pieces of the boulder and rocks into the wheelbarrow.]

Do you have any plans for your cottage?

[callmekacchan]

[Amazing what being in a strange new place can do. As of right now they really only have each other. And for all his bluster, Katsuki plans to keep an eye on Izuku here. None of the others are here so it's all on him to keep Izuku safe and out of trouble.]

No. Just gonna clean the place up so it's not shitty. Hopefully we won't be here long enough to do anything else.

[The longer they're here, the more he'll do. But right now he's hoping they won't be here long.]

[It is a special sort of relief to know that he has Katsuki here with him, it's true. He'll keep that thought to himself, though. He just hopes that everyone else back home is alright for now... Even if he is worried and will be constantly thinking of them. It looks like the two of them will be gone to save another world first.]

I think in the least we have to help grow fruits, ne?

[That was the general idea that everyone here seems to be familiar with.]

Yeah, but that's not anything to do with the cottage. I'm not gonna bother decorating or anything.

[At least... until he starts accumulating furniture. Then he'll start decorating just so that it's not all piled up somewhere...

Unless he feels challenged to decorate.]

[Izuku nods. He's also chucking in more pieces of rubble into the wheelbarrow.]

I don't think it would be a bad idea to decorate at least some of it. But I have no idea how to do anything like that.

[He doesn't know how to decorate anything and it's not like he can drape All Might merchandise on everything in his cabin.

Bet your decorating style hasn't improved since we were brats. Probably not gonna find any All Might merch here, though.

[He snickers. He knows Izuku as well as Izuku knows him.]

So what's your plan?

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku frowns with some embarrassment. His hand coming up to wipe some dirt from his forehead but it kind of just smudges it on his skin. Lawn maintenance is busy work!]

There's nothing wrong with at least using All Might inspired colours...??

[Izuku, no. It's so tacky.]

But I was hoping to get the yard finished and my trees planted. Maybe some vegetables too since I've never done anything like that before... And then fixing the roof on this cabin? I'm not sure why mine was so run down.

[Luck of the draw.]

[Katsuki’s eyes fall on that smudge and he frowns, unthinkingly reaching up and roughly smudging it away with his thumb.]

Just as messy now as when we were brats...

[He clicks his tongue and addresses the rest.]

You even know how to patch a roof?

[... Izuku is still not quite used to Katsuki being so fussy over him now. It's still taking him off guard every single time it happens. So he sort of stands there, confused as all heck.]

I- mean... how hard can that be...?

[Yeah, he's totally confused about the roof repairs and not anything else.]

[It's new for Katsuki too and he's still figuring out some things. But he's already made his choice.]

So you don't know. We've got snow on the ground. That should be the first thing we tackle. Forget the garden for now. Let's go have a look at that hole.

[fullgauntlet]

[In a lot of ways they've always been drawn to each other. They've always fought about everything too- But with the two of them working together and talking like this it's still sort of new territory for Izuku.

Not that he minds it? Izuku is trying so hard not to say something dumb that will reverse everything. He's trying not to ask questions because he doesn't want it to stop!]

Have you fixed a roof before, Kacchan?

[Okay- some questions. Related to the work!!]

... Okay. We're about done with these rocks then I can show you where it's broken in.

[He tosses the last bit of stone into the wheelbarrow and starts back for the worn-down cottage Izuku was given.]

[That is not among things he's had to do before.]

But we're not leaving a hole in your roof, damn it.

[So. They'll figure it out. He follows Izuku back to the cottage.]

Got a ladder?

[Izuku blinks and looks amazed...]

Kacchan, you're really good at everything you put your mind to, aren't you.

[He smiles a little bit before he walks ahead to grab the old rickety ladder he has. It looks like junk!]

Here. But... Please be careful using it.

If you don't try, you'll never know. And if you're no good at it, you just practice 'til you are.

[He doesn't know the meaning of giving up. That's how he's always been. Always learning. Always improving.

He leans the ladder against the cottage, testing it out. Rickity for sure. But it feels like it'll hold. So up he goes, carefully, to investigate.

He's careful on the roof too, testing how sturdy it is. He doesn't want to fall through.]

It doesn't look too bad. I don't think it'll take long to patch.

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku looks up and watches Katsuki while he comments about practice and getting better. It's one of the things that Izuku admires the blond boy for so much. The sunlight above hits Katsuki just right to make the colour of his light hair brighten and Izuku finds a small little rush in his chest creeping up on him. He doesn't look away but he tries to make it seem like he wasn't just ... looking at Katsuki like a smitten puppy.]

I ... I think we could pick up some new planks of wood in town. I don't think they cost too much.

[He nods.]

I think at this rate we'll be more than just heroes in training. We'll be master builders in training too.

[He chuckles a little. Was that cringe??]

[A nasty remark crosses Katsuki's mind and nearly leaves his lips. Go ahead and quit the hero track and get into home repair then. He bites his tongue and instead pokes around at that hole until that wave of nastiness passes.

He's getting better. But he still has a long road ahead of him.]

Useful information to have. When the fights are all over, there's always shit to rebuild.

[Not that it's usually hero work. But when there's lulls between the normal hero work...]

You got money for what we need?

[fullgauntlet]

[Wow, Kacchan. Izuku was only remarking on how neat it is that they're learning something new like this. There's no way he would ever give up his hero dream on top of it!

But Izuku doesn't seem to notice. Izuku only nods.]

That's right... We'll be able to help even after the fact.

[He looks up a again.]

I have a bit left. If we can't manage it today we can always do it another day. I'm alright with this for now?

[Hey, he didn't say it outloud at least! He's being comparatively good today!

He gives Izuku a look.]

What did I say? There's snow on the ground, you damn nerd! We're not leaving a hole in your roof so you can catch pneumonia. If it comes to it, I'll pay for the rest and you'll pay me back.

[Don't you argue with him! He'll fly off this roof and fight you!]

[Good because this is Izuku's pretend-date!! ... It's not. It just happens to be Valentine's Day. Anyway-]

I don't think it would be that bad If I just slept with the heat on high enough or... Ahh.

[No, that's a terrible idea. Izuku's still just used to kind of roughing it outside. At least this time he quietly concedes because he is trying to be better too.]

Alright, Kacchan. Let's go get what we need so we can finish the roof today.

[callmekacchan]

[Katsuki turns to look at him when he starts. You damn well better not, Izuku.

Luckily Izuku catches himself and Katsuki carefully climbs down from the roof.]

Let's get moving.

[So he'll walk with him to get wooden boards. As well as roofing nails, a hammer and a sealant they can put on the boards to protect the wood from rain and snow. He may not know much about roof repair, but he does know wood isn't gonna last under weather like that without sealant. So.]

[Katsuki really is a man on a mission. While they're out collecting things Izuku can't help but say...]

Kacchan, thanks again for helping me today.

[Today. Of all days.

He balances an armful of wooden planks effortlessly but he's still saying this as they walk about collecting everything they need.]

What, you expected me to let your dumb ass freeze to death?

[That's a 'you're welcome' in Katsuki.

Also never mind that he also helped clear the field. And that they didn't actually get to his own today due to being waylaid with roof repairs. He needs to tsun to save face, thanks.]

[Izuku sweatdrops but he gets the sentiment.]

Well, maybe we could grab a hot chocolate when we're all done, just to make sure. I'll buy?

[... Subtly wanting to get something chocolate for Katsuki? No? No way- Ahaha. What?]
