Humans have basic necessities and so maybe if we apply them to our own experiences? Food, water and a safe place to live. I think in getting them their own bed within our space where they can feel safe sleeping is all the steps they need. Exercise and other such things are accomplished by letting them play with each other under supervision, or go outside to enjoy being able to run around.
Though. Toys? I'm not sure, I didn't have toys growing up either.
I guess we could see if there's a pet store or something around. Or maybe the library would have something. But I think you're on the right track.
